GoATL Invest for Impact Fund
Project type
Building Project
Location
Atlanta, Georgia
Description: The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta created the region’s first diversified impact fund, the GoATL Fund, which invests capital to scale outcomes in affordable housing, economic inclusion, quality education, and access to health care and green spaces. The fund’s primary goals are to produce social returns along with modest financial returns and the preservation of a principle.
Since launching in 2018, the fund has raised just under $14 million from the foundation and 27 investors, deployed over $13 million in 12 individual investments, and advanced measurable outcomes in affordable housing, education, food systems and job creation. GoATL has invested $5.35 million in affordable housing that has funded 932 units to be built or renovated for both single-family and multifamily housing.
What makes it different: Commitments of debt capital are typically invested over four-to-seven years, which allows partners to generate expected outcomes. Over time, the fund capital recycles into new investments and perpetuates growth in social outcomes.
